Inhabiting A Different Universe,
This review is from: Of Whales And Woe (Audio CD)
Anyone stumbling into this review probably already knows who Les Claypool is. He's a bass player. He is good. I mean, Ronaldhino good. His track record is good to awesome. He is the Argentina winning 6-0 of bass players, and apparently it's not just about the result.
One day Mr Claypool woke up and in his unfathomably wired skull he decided: 'I shall make an album of awesome dimension, better displaying my talents than hitherto and it shall be stunning. Now, leave me, for I must concentrate on music never yet written or attempted.'
And he did.
Whilst Les Claypool has made albums before - both solo and in various bands - of which I have heard every one, this is something...well, just out there. His bass playing in 'One Better' and his...ballad..... 'Iowan Girl' is nothing short of literally jaw dropping. The former of the two is perhaps the live party-track of the year.
If you play the bass, like basslines, have seen a bass or are from a similar dimension from our seemingly alternate-reality inhabiting multi-handed loon, I advise you buy this.
Good day to you.
