My favourite PS3 FPS so far!,
This review is from: Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (PS3) (Video Game)
I consider myself to be a reasonably experienced player of FPS games. I have racked-up nearly 400 hours on MAG and have played almost all the CoD games through to completion. However, I consider this game to be head and shoulders above all the FPSs I have played before.
Single player story mode is standard fare for the genre. You are part of a team that has to stop a foreign enemy from sparking a war that will destroy the world. Yadda yadda yadda....you've heard it all before. However, single player isn't where FPSs come into their own. Instead, longevity of any FPS game resides in multiplayer mode.
I believe that MAG has the biggest maps of any multiplayer FPS, as well as a record number of players in any single mode (256). However, the graphics and controls suck (sorry Zipper, but using the trigger buttons to cycle through weapons and gear doesn't quite cut it). CoD (all of them) has great controls and great graphics, but the maps are small and the gameplay too simplistic (not enough emphasis on teamplay, resulting in more `Rambo' players).
B:BC2 has managed to find a perfect balance between gameplay/graphics/map size. Also, what makes this game stand out from its competitors is its level of realism. The weapons all handle differently and have unique characteristics. Bullet trajectory dips over longer distances. Buildings and trees are destructible. These are factors that have never before been presented in such an immersive way.
Two thumbs up from this FPS fan. I'm now eagerly awaiting the release of Battlefield 3.
