This review is from: Concise Oxford Dictionary of Archaeology 2/e (Oxford Quick Reference) (Paperback)
This is a concise dictionary of archaeological terms, which has so far provided basic answers to the questions that I have posed it. However, I find that understanding the origins of phrases, foreign words and terminology helps me remember their meaning but this dictionary makes little attempt to provide such background information. So, for example, the definition of 'grubenhaus' provides no explanation of the Germanic roots of the word, and the definitions for 'Dalton point' and 'Dalton Tradition' provide no clue as to who, what or where 'Dalton' was. Overall, a useful book for the price but could be better and still retain its concise and affordable nature.
