Best Debut Album Ever?,
This review is from: Suede (Audio CD)
Having almost fallen off of my chair hearing the original release of The Drowners on the Chart Show back in 1992, I knew this band had something and I wanted nothing but to hear more. Little did I know at that moment that this would be a band to transform my listening habits forever.
Suede had a lot to live up to with this album, nominated (and eventually winning) the 1993 Mercury Music Prize and Melody Maker declaring them as the next big thing before the release of their first album and giving them a front page headline "Suede: The Best New Band in Britain".... and live up to it they did. Not only opening at the top of the album charts but also becoming the fastest selling debut album in a decade.
The album features the singles So Young, The Drowners, Metal Mickey and Animal Nitrate that encapsulates their signature sound. 18 years later the music doesn't sound out of place alongside new contemporary bands. If you like Britpop, you must own this album!
