This review is from: Portable Childhoods: Stories (Paperback)
This is just a lovely collection. As well as being a master storyteller, and a weaver of deceptively simple prose, Klages manages to induce in the reader a sort of strange, bittersweet, displaced nostalgia for times and places one never knew. (I wish we had a word for it, I bet the Germans do!) Add fresh ideas and engaging, real characters and you have a book to swoon over, a literate page-turner.
I laughed, I cried, I read it in a day. Buy this book.
