This review is from: Buonissimo! Italian Food has never been so sexy (Paperback)
This is a great selection of recipes, with plenty of variety, and generally quick and easy to prepare. The book is divided into five chapters: Romantico (elegant recipes for two), Per Me (recipes for one), Per tutti i Giorni (Everyday suppers), Facile Facile (easy, but impressive recipes), Salute (party food).
To give you an idea of the recipes, here are a few of my favourites: Little gnocchi with truffle oil, butter & sage (made from scratch); salmon & creamy leek parcels (using shop bought filo pastry so ideal for those who worry about pastry making); king prawns in caper & tomato sauce; stuffed pasta shells; roast sea bream with rosemary & garlic; chicken wrapped in parma ham with a creamy herb sauce;a version of toad in the hole with rosemary & red onions; a really good maccheroni cheese; a vegetable bake; lamb tagine; stuffed pimentos. There are some excellent soups including a particularly nice fresh pea & parsley soup, and also some good accompaniments such as roasted squash with sage & chilli.
There are also some really good desserts too - banana fritters with a quick caramel sauce, a stunning lemon & mango tart, chocolate bread & butter pudding, marzipan stuffed peach with meringue, strawberries & raspberries layered with whiskey cream, and best of all for me, an ice-cream cake with nougat & amaretto which is a doddle to make.
All told, a useful book, with plenty for the time-pressed cook.
