Ardent Adele fan,
This review is from: Young Wives' Tales (Paperback)
She's done it again! I loved the character of Connie the first time round, in Playing Away, and it's exciting to see how all the characters are managing in a life of school runs/PTA meetings/online dating/work and home life balance, and men still being ... well, men.
Adele has a knack for putting her finger on our fears and vulnerabilities, our dark sides, our hopes and expectations in love and friendship, and keeping the characters "human" - sometimes we just mess up, we hurt our friends, disappoint our husbands, and lie to our bosses. Equally, our friends bring out the best in us, they believe in us, fight for us, support us, and are as dear to us as family.
The tension surrounding Connie's "will she/won't she" situation is tangible, and had me jumping in my seat to get through the pages to find out.
Adele's honest observations are as refreshing and funny as they are thought-provoking and tormenting at times (OMG, am I like that in relationships/friendships, do I do that?!). Her language is quick, sharp and thoroughly engrossing.
P.S. You don't have to read Playing Away first, but do read it anyway as it's another top read.
