The Ideal Height,
This review is from: The Ideal Height (Audio CD)
“The Ideal Height” is one of those songs that comes along every once in a while which kinda makes you stop and actually *think* about it for a second. From the initial stop-start rhythms and angular chords to the quieter and more brooding middle section, moving onto the more urgent ending, it’s quite a journey, and you barely feel the three and a half minutes pass by, a great opening single from an album.
And that’s just when it gets interesting. “…And With The Scissorkick Is Victorious” is like Biffy have taken “57”, “27” and “Stress On the Sky”, put them in a blender, added more balls and stirred well. And then some. The song twists and turns like an electric eel on speed, and would never fail to be a crowd-pleaser in a live situation, with some great anthemic moments. Final song “Do You Remember What You Came For?” is a soothing ballad, mixing heart-breaking vocals and some luscious guitar lines to great effect. The final vocal harmony of the song caps off a great CD, and leaves you wondering that if these songs are only b-sides, then the tracks on Biffy Clyro’s next album must be absolutely mind-blowing.
