At least the frother works a bit,
This review is from: De'Longhi Icona ECO310.R Pump Espresso Machine, Scarlet Red (Kitchen & Home)
This was a gift, something to use at home, but I am back to waiting till I get to work to have my first coffee of the day.
As many others have said, it looks great. There however the greatness ends. I was not expecting miracles but:
To start with, as many others have said, it was noisy, lots of alarming buzzes and whistles for the first several usages but it did settle down, What caused all that? Any one from De'Longhi care to comment.
Then you go through the process and make your first coffee. OK, so I am a professional and am use to coffee of a high standard, but this really disappoints. My guess is that it just lacks punch. Fair enough low cost pump machines probably all lack this punch, perhaps if you spend two to three times as much....
I suspect the thermostat is suspect cause the coffee is always look warm. I warm the cup with boiling water but no joy and the steamer doesn't help. You have to wait for the green light to reappear before you start and if you are warming enough milk for a cafe con leche you will have to have two attempts as it runs out of steam and has to reheat. By this time you have added so much water (condensed steam)to the mix that you have lost the creaminess you would expect.
The good bit? With the "frother" attachment even the most unskilled person can get enough foam for a cappuccino.
Then is gets bad again. Getting rid of the old grounds. The first time I did this filter and everything ended up in the bin and took some finding. I had thought I could just knock the coffee as I normally do. No such luck. you have to mess around with a teaspoon scrape the grounds out then rinse the remains under the tap to get rid of the wet mush that is always left.
It leaks, after six months of occasional use. It carries on dripping after you make a coffee and the steam lance is now leaking. Its a disposable and I doubt if anyone will have one of these after a couple of years light use.
So, its a great looking milk frother but you can get a far better coffee from a stove top. For me this is a waste of money but if you are into gadgets or like the american version of Italian coffee you can get in the high street, then fill yer boots!
If you want a great coffee in the morning spend two - three times the money or find a nice little Spanish or Italian cafe-bar for breakfast.
