South Downs Way - All in One Day ?,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: South Downs Way XT40 (Route Maps): National Trail (Map)
Good Map for Walkers and of waterproof material.
Could do with being smaller for Mountain Bikers to slip in a pocket.
Contours give you an idea but a side on view of the elevations would also help with planning a trip, mentally as well as physically.
If you are attempting the South Downs (particularly on a bike) do train for it, the hills are big and quite numerous, they seem to get bigger the further East you head (I'm sure it wasn't just my tired legs).
Sign posting on the SDW isn't very good and speaking to others a lot have strayed off the trail.
It maybe easier to spot the signs on foot, but on a Mountain Bike it's easy to miss them.
Don't go out on the South Downs without a map, plenty of water, energy bars and some spares.
It's apparently very slippery in the wet - you've been warned.
The views however are spectacular and you won't regret the trip - but do prepare, a map is essential.

Mr. Ian R. Hamilton says:
If you think that the sign posting in the SDW "isn't very good" then you must have had your eyes closed, or you were going too fast!
You could _probably_ do the entire route OK without a map, but doing this would not be very sensible...
