This review is from: Grace For Drowning (Audio CD)
There is a feeling that Steven Wilson is really finding his feet on this album. The 'post' prog culture that he supposedly belongs to is far more variable than its antecedent. There are hints of the past, but so much more to look forward to. The rhythms are tight and driven, the melodies soft and fluent. It is the incongruity of sentiment and sound that gives this music its 'bi-polar' character. CD1 is ahead of CD2 in as much as it is song driven. CD2 more experimental and perhaps more diverse. The production is, as you would expect, first rate, and I really enjoy the dynamic contrast so redolent of the music I grew up with, and so lacking in our day-to-day Cowell world.
