ENJOYABLE AND QUICK READ,
This review is from: The British Museum Is Falling Down (Paperback)
I enjoyed this early writing of David Lodge. It had humour, and at times rather ridiculous scenarios, but it fitted in with the general fabric of the story. Adam is working on his PhD without a great deal of enthusiasm, the over-riding problem that seems to possess his waking hours is the Catholic Church and its requirements regarding birth control. The whole novel takes place over one day, and mainly centres on the Reading Room of the British Museum. David Lodge writes with humour, and much later he combines some of the ideas expressed in this book into future novels. There are shades of Evelyn Waugh, particularly Scoop, and Tom Sharpe ion the form of writing.
An enjoyable read.
