Sweet & Gentle,
This review is from: For The Love Of Ada - Series 1 - Complete [DVD] (DVD)
I was too young to remember this comedy when it was first on, as I would have been about 7 and more interested in playing with mates and toys to care about TV. As I grew up, I do recall watching anything and everything with Irene Handl in it, a superb character actress who could make me smile by just turning up on screen. When this series was shown on cable in the early 90's for the first time in years, I recorded them all and just loved the ensemble acting of the cast. Sure, some of the storylines are a little corny and the sets wobbly, but that's how things were in the 70's when this was made. The important thing is that it's still funny; maybe not always laugh out loud funny (although there were one or two moments that made me really laugh), but sweet funny.
This is the sort of programme that makes you glad you watched it when it's over, because it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Irene Handl has such a twinkle in her eye, it's impossible to dislike her and Wilfred Pickles is so lovely, they make a wonderful couple. Can't wait for series two.
