This is the first book that I have read by this author and I was not disappointed. Ione brings some new aspects into the way Vampires were created and had brought them into a world where humans take advantage of them, using them as slaves and test subjects.
Nicole is a very strong character who very quickly when abducted by Rikar overcomes her fear of Vampires and she finds they are not quite the way that the humans have portrayed them. She gets a massive reality check into her woeful lack of understanding of who they actually are.
Rikar is a tormented Vampire who watched his mate (and Nicole's childhood nanny) kill herself. He has not been quite the same since, but nicole is bringing back a softness to him that he thought that he had lost.
I liked the fact that natural born vampires and the ones that were bitten had their differences, but I'm not sure that many people will like that fact that the natural born vampires are American Indians.
The book ends with a cliff hangar that really has you chomping at the bit for the next book, which we are prompted to believe is for hunter.
