Queen Mary 2 - The Birth of a Legend,
This review is from: Queen Mary 2: The Birth of a Legend (Hardcover)
The RMS Queen Mary 2 truely is a magnificent feat of maritime engineering and is a worthy successor to the legendary QE2 (1969 - 2008) having taken over the mantle of transaltantic liner and 'Flagship' to the Cunard Line.
The book starts with a detailed history of the Cunard Line and the ships that followed in the QM2's wake, including the QE2, and this first part of the book concludes with a history of the Alstom Chantiers Atlantique shipyard and a few of the famous names which were built at this yard on the banks of the River Loire. The colour images of the ship being built as and when it happend are beyond stunning and it is a proud testemant to the skill and paitence of the yard workers who worked tirelessly to meet the tight delivery deadline - they were given a mere 2 years to deliver the ship to Cunard. I must be honest and say that this book was actually presented to me by the Cunard Line in November 2006, nevertheless this book is something to be a treasured forever and makes for a great companion to Carol Thatcher's 'QE2 - Forty Years Famous' and soon-to-be released 'QE2 - Britian's Greatest Liner' which I look forward to recieving when it is delivered to me in December 2008.
