Female-Fronted Metal Album Of The Year,
This review is from: The Bonding (Audio CD)
The world of femme metal is insanely overpopulated, but Edenbridge were there first, along with Nightwish, After Forever and a handful of others. These guys have been putting out great records right from the start, and while they have eschewed their power metal roots, much like Nightwish, they've become a much heavier, more progressive beast, drawing their influence in the riff department from acts such as Testament and Threshold.
"The Bonding" opens with "Mystic River", one of the band's best songs, chock full of captivating melodies and great guitar work. Unlike so many bands in this genre, Edenbridge focus on the metal, though not in a Crystal Viper sense; they keep the epic keys and sweeping soundscapes for the ballads. Their heavy tunes are direct and accessible, getting the foot tapping from the first spin.
Sabine has the voice of a deity, and anyone who has yet to hear it is missing a treat (she's not so hard on the eyes, either). This is one of the band's best releases; it's epic, catchy, and inventive. Fans of the genre need it on their shelf.
