Fascinating - but quite hard work,
This review is from: The Marlowe Papers (Hardcover)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)Uncertain, at first, just how I would fare
with this novel, written in language so rare,
that demanded my total attention,
and my disbelief's suspension.
I did, as the pages went by,
warm to the topic and, by and by,
came to enjoy the story,
even the parts that were gory.
The tale of how one chap named Marlowe
became the 'bard' that we now know,
who authored so many great plays,
and owned at least two beds, they say.
It isn't the easiest tome,
but once you feel you're at home,
with the curious language, the happy and sad,
of the glove maker's son,
the shoe maker's lad,
of the brawls and the fights,
and heretical nights,
you'll be glad that you gave up the time
to read this new treasure in rhyme.
