This review is from: Miller's 100 Years of the Decorative Arts (Miller's Antiques Checklist) (Hardcover)
This exhaustive, easy to use guide offers a wide verity of antiques and collectables in the victoriana, arts and crafts, art nouveau and deco styles, with everything from furniture, glass and ceramics to silver, textiles, jewelry and prints. It is full of valuable information about many different artists, focusing on the leading names in every field. The book outlines what to look for when presented with a certain object, what the pitfalls you need to avoid are, and how marks of the great artists should look like. It also gives descriptions of the fakes produced over the years and how to spot them. It is very well written, and full of many great photos as examples of the artists and movements featured-and all in full color. One very nice part of the book is the section "selected designers and manufacturers". In this section, there is a compilation of different artists and makers and their marks and signatures as they were marked or singed originally. Mr. Knowles definitely knows what he is talking about! It is only a shame he does not put a value estimate along side the many wonderful photos. I highly recommend this book as a reference guide to anyone interested in antiques.
