5.0 out of 5 stars Great range extender .. once you fix the firmware!, 14 Dec 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: TP-Link TL-WA730RE 150Mbps Wireless N Range Extender (Accessory)
Bought this to extend my parents wireless network. Usual excellent delivery by Amazon. Out of the box the product is useless. The firmware shipped is ancient and doesn't work. Very quickly found the manufacturers website, downloaded latest firmware and reflashed the unit. Now working flawlessly. Such good value. Someone needs to take up the firmware issue with the manufacturer. If you are not comfortable reflashing hardware then think twice!

Got this product today and it isn't working. Was wondering if you could tell me how I would install the up to date firmware? I have downloaded it and have a .bin file but don't know what to do with it now!

Dude, it's straight forward. Login to the tlink. I think from memory it is located under tools. There will be an tab /link to fireware upgrade. Whatever it was it is obvious. There will be a button to browse to the bin file and click upgrade firmware (or similar) . The router will update itself and reboot.

You will have to refresh the browser page and then log back in

Not sure if anyone is reading these, but would like to know:

I plan on using this to boost my SKY router to my Panasonic TV and PS3 wirelessly. My desktop pc is cabled into the SKY router. Will the PS3 and Telly pick up the extender easily do you think / know? Will I have to fiddle with them (aside from 'locating' the router if need be). And ... can I still cable my PC into the SKY main router at the same time too?

Hope someone can help, before I try buying this product.
