A Harmony set novel and perhaps the start of a new series,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Canyons Of Night: Number 1 in series (Rainshadow Island) (Paperback)
Set on the planet Harmony in the future, this book is part of the Looking Glass series, although that didn't occur to me when reading it, and possibly the start of new series.
Rainshadow Island on Harmony used to be the strong-hold of pirate Harry Sebastian when the first colonists set up on the planet, and the Sebastian family still own and protect part of the Island known as The Preserve. Strange things happen in the preserve that mess with the senses and the minds of humans. So there is a protective "fence" to keep the unwary out and perhaps to keep what inhabits the Preserve, in. The Canyons of the Night, refer to the dark canyons within the Preserve.
Slade Attridge and Charlotte Enright met when they teenagers on the Island, they go their separate ways and fifteen years later meet again. The strong attraction between them is still there.
Charlotte now runs her late Aunt's antique shop on the Island and Slade has just been appointed police chief, after an accident ruined his previous job on the mainland. A romance soon blossoms between them, but Slade is only going to be on the Island on a temporary basis.
There are break-ins to Charlotte's shop, someone is searching for something and also something appears to be stirring in the Preserve. (Cue for scary Jaws music!)
An interesting, fast-paced novel. Which, however doesn't answer the question of what is in the Preserve. So, there's definately scope for another novel, which will presumably star the Sebastian family.
Looks like the Crystal Gardens is going to be the follow on. I have to admit that I am confused now, as I read that this book was part of the Looking Glass series. However, the book title now appears to say that it is Book1 in the Rainshadow Island series. HeyHo, it was good whatever is/was.
