This review is from: Incubus Dreams: Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter: Volume 12: An Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter Novel (Paperback)
As I devoted Anita Blake fan I pre-ordered this book and have to agree with the other reviewers, it is not as good as her earlier books and the plot line is weak.
Usually the machinations of the vampire and lycanthrope world are worked around Anita's police work but in the last few books the police work has come off second best to Anita's love interests and this has been to the detriment of the series. There was more to respect in the main character in the previous books that there is now. With each of the last few books I have purchased I have been looking forward to the return of the vampire council, Edward and Asher. Edward has all but disappeared, Asher is hardly mentioned in the last book and the vampire council hasn't been seen in a while.
A return to the old days would be good, please hear us Laurell Hamilton!! However I am not sure even Laurell Hamilton can pull this off as any book she now writes will have to include the 6 or so love interests Anita presently has and I am not sure there is room for a plot line around all that testosterone!
Only worth a read if you are a die hard fan and can't bear NOT to find out what happens. To someone reading Anita Blake for the first time, order Guilty Pleasures instead, you won't be disappointed.
