Obvious positives but finally not worth,
This review is from: DK Eyewitness Top 10 Travel Guide: Rome (Paperback)
Ok this book is glossy, colorfull with big pictures etc and top 10 of basic stuff you need to know. For what this is supposed to offer it's pretty ok.Therefore 3 stars!
i have also used the Rome: City Guide (Lonely Planet City Guide) and although i rated it 2 stars for it's own reasons it is still much more worth that this one.
For 1 or 2 days it's ok though proposing top 10 of everything is quite restricting and the photos take up usefull space for important information.
Many times you might find yourself wondering what is this?Is this the xxxx or is it that one there?Well i would like to know at least what i'm looking at and some info on what is that and why it is important. If you just want to be able to say that you've seen Colosseum ok but for me it's not that.
The map is useless too for serious tourism.Small streets missing.Get a proper one separately.A pullout map can never be sufficient.
As for places to eat.Not really worth when 1-2 years have passed since the publication.I was disappointed to find out that 3 of them where not even there.
BUT Rome is full of great or just good places to eat if you just use common sense.A pizza will almost always be good!
You don't need that kind of info.
And please, how can the top 10 places to eat cannot be touristic? Most places in the Rome you can visit in 5-7days(there are so many things to see) will be touristic.Don't fool yourself for being out of the crowd. There's no such thing in Rome with the thousands of tourists.
So,what i would do now is buy a full guide (of my carefull choice) in order to have all the information that i might need and discover the rest on my own. It's better and prettier that way.
If you REALLY want to see Rome, leave this guide for those 1 day travellers and get a proper one .(+map)
