This review is from: The Very Best Of Bobby Vee (Audio CD)
For this to claim to be the Best of Bobby Vee is just a disgrace. Without 'Walking With My Angel' and 'Letter From Betty' it falls a long way short of such a claim. Using cover versions of other artists hits is OK when all the best of the original songs are included. Whoever put this together just doesn't respect Bobby's work. Another attempt to cash in without respect for the catalogue.

Peter Durward Harris says:
The tracks you mention were both B-sides - hardly essential for a budget compilation.

I can't argue that point at all Ken. I wrote the liner notes, but I was not excited about all the song picks. It did sell 60,000 so I imagine they're all patting themselves on the back.

Unfortunately K Charmer, this as you know often happens with any Artist compilation. Some punters will be disappointed with tracks either selected or omitted. However it's always appropriate to comment on worthy entries that may be missing I think. Regarding Bobby Vee's credible Buddy Holly covers - I think his version of "Well All Right" was very good and worthy of inclusion on such a compilation. Just a thought.

Mr. K. G. Charmer says:
I stand by what I say. This simply is not 'The Best Of Bobby Vee' The tracks omitted are important sides that were popular in their day. But budget sets are often of such poor quality........but they could at least title it differently.....'Hits and LP sides" for instance. This remains a poor representation of his best work......but hey it happens...I'm just telling the truth.

I was actually agreeing with you K.G. and so you should "stand by what you say". For I know exactly where you are coming from. Compilations of artists work should indeed actually represent the very best stuff. I myself find it annoying when worthy tracks are not selected. I wouldn't be wanting to buy this CD anyway. A good artist though - Bobby Vee - and I still have some quality B.V. vinyl. Yours In Rock n' Roll ..... Chris.

Mr. K. G. Charmer says:
Thanks Chris and yes BV has a great catalogue. I grew up with it. But comments are needed to highlight bad compilations so people are not misled
