This review is from: Margaret Rutherford: Dreadnought with Good Manners (Paperback)
This is a gentle waltz through the life and work of Margaret Rutherford, a British actress who embodied everything that one could want of a good character actress of her time. Her personal life, which was clearly a difficult one at times is played down, and the emphasis is on her work in the theatre, in films and occasionally radio. The British public loved her performances, and luckily for us some of her greatest roles were captured on film, and carefully described in this book. If you are looking for scandal, don't buy it. But if you want to understand what made her such a popular and much-loved actress, and read some of the comments of her peers, then you wil enjoy this book as I did.
