Now that's what I call Metal!,
This review is from: Crowned In Terror (Audio CD)
This album is so Metal it's difficult to describe how good it is. In the simplest of terms, it's absolutely awesome. It's everything a Thrash Metal album should be and more, with everything turned up past eleven, to a scale even Spinal Tap's Nigel Tufnell would not believe. It's THAT Metal! Massive amounts of superb riffs, speedy and precise drumming with a healthy proportion of blast beats which always goes down well, and, for one night only, the nasty, spiteful-sounding vocals of superb Metal singer Tomas Lindberg. To this day, Tomas is best known as the former voice of At The Gates, and to be honest, that is where he did his best work, although his projects since then, including The Great Deceiver and the excellent Lock Up have been very impressive. On 'Crowned In Terror' though, he gives probably his best performance since the break up of ATG seven years ago. Barking out the lyrics and obviously having a whale of a time doing it, he compliments the the massive Thrash riffs of Marko Tervonen and Marcus Sunesson perfectly. There is simply not a dull moment on this whole album, with Metal corkers like Under The Whip and the brilliant title track. However, the finest song for me has to be the album closer Death Metal Holocaust, where The Crown borrow the their drumming style directly from Krisiun (constant blastbeats and a double bass attack, breathtaking stuff!) and utilise a twin-vocalist assault of Lindberg and regular The Crown frontman Johan Lindstrand to absolutely stunning effect. It's Metal enough to make Manowar weep into their loincloths, and it's as heavy a song as you'll ever hear in the Thrash Metal genre. Like the rest of this brilliant album, it's Metal enough to make your eyes water, and that's the best way to be!
