4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, but a hidden make, 31 May 2013

This review is from: Sage by Heston Blumenthal the Barista Express, 1700 Watt (Kitchen & Home)
Hi

Had this for a couple of weeks now and felt it best to helo othere.... firstly and most importantly please dont be fooled by the Heston branding, what they are trying to hide is that this is a Breville!!!

Yep that famous sandwich toasting company, I can only presume it has been rebranded in the UK because we would all rightly go "A Breville!!!"

In the US Breville is regarded as a good make so they own up to who makes it... so drum roll......

it is a Breville BES870XL Barista Express

moving on from the Heston (lets hide the make) Blumenthal con, it actually makes bloody good coffee, once you can get it right (that takes a while)...

Warning... it is very messy, you will get coffee grounds everywhere, it is too big to go under a cupboard, it eats the beans..

Plus points, it makes the hottest coffee I have tasted out of a machine, it looks great and is easy to use.... I do think it is too expensive at the moment I feel like the USA have it at $600, that is about 450, that should be our price....

4 stars because it makes excellent tasting coffee, and that is the most important bit......

Hi,
Yes you are right, Sage is part of the Breville Group Australia not confused with the unrelated BrevilleUK.
Heston explains it best http://tinyurl.com/m5sjrz9

Kind regards.

This model is also the (i believe the original) Gastroback advance pro which is made in CZ/DE. Breville has just copied the design - same with the tea maker (that has the magnetic basket) - all originated as gastroback. Shame heston couldn't actually design something new was always impressed with his inventions in the kitchen. Nice machines though but there are better :-)

Hi Krystine,

Breville Australia is the primary company head and Gastroback(Germany)and Catler(Czech republic) is a distributor of the products as are many other companies all over the world. Breville Australia is not linked with Breville UK and Sage Appliances is directly owned by Breville Australia. Heston is the brand ambassador for Breville Australia and Sage Appliances. We think Heston explains the working relationship best in this video http://tinyurl.com/m5sjrz9

Kind regards.

I found that the messy way in which this review is written makes it difficult to follow. For this reason it was not very helpful.
