I really love a song with intelligent lyrics (whether serious or whimsical) and a good tune. It never hurts to have it sung by an artist with an engaging voice and style, either. This album has all of those, plus it's produced by Mike Batt, who knows better than just about anyone how to showcase a singer without getting in the way. I pre-ordered it on the strength of the pre-release teasers issued by the record company, and am delighted with the result. Not surprisingly, I like some tracks better than others, but there really isn't a dud in the lot. "God on Drums, the Devil on Bass" was a particularly pleasant surprise, as the last time I heard it, it was my least favourite track on my least favourite album "The House" from my most favourite singer, Katie Melua (who co-wrote it with Mike Batt). I think it's all in the production with this song..
