Cheap sounding, synth HI-NRG,
This review is from: Disco Queen (Audio CD)
Kelly Marie should know better. As the purveyor of such fine pop tunes as "Feels like I'm in love" and "Lovin' just for fun" in the early 80's, she knows what a good dance tune sounds like. So, as her star fades over the horizon (as they have a tendency to do with all good artists), she's resorted to the HI-NRG sound in the hope that her loyal gay fanbase will further her career. Now, don't get me wrong, I LOVE HI-NRG and was around in the clubs in the early 80's when it was all the rage, but this CD is totally unrelated to that sound. Anyone expecting high class production values will be sadly disappointed.
I love Kelly Marie and I love most of the songs on here, so I thought this album would be a perfect combination. Instead, you're treated to track after track of the same cheaply produced synth sound with Kelly's vocals (which incidentally still sound good). Unfortunately, her vocals aren't enough for me, because the constant banging of the synth sounds become SOOOOOO annoying after about track 4. Such a shame. On paper, this should have been a classic HI-NRG album from a great artist, but in reality, it's an annoying lost opportunity. I've given it two stars for the couple of tracks that I liked before selling it on eBay!!
