I hadn't heard of Area prior to coming across one of their tracks on Darko Esser's CLR podcast. Darko used the opening of Area's haunting masterpiece 'Missing a Few' as the intro to his set. Having tracked down this tune, I explored their other work and felt the album seemed worth the purchase. I have not been disappointed; whilst the stand out record is 'Missing a Few', do not fear that you'll end up purchasing an album for one quality moment. 'Skyline Face Sillhouette' is a superb melodic record, and 'Slow Death Ghetto' is a record brimming with character. 'Pathll' has a massive drop in the middle of the tune which really catches you off guard and makes a big impact. Finally, 'Moving Away', along with the forementioned 'Missing a Few' offers a deeper moment, and is the next best record to it on the album.
Across 13 tracks, there's plenty there then worthy of a mention. There's a good level of variation on show without the album losing it's coherence, and plenty of gold there for those who enjoy creating their own dj sets with techno music. The overarching style isn't too disimilar to the awesome Sandwell District, although perhaps not so consistently atmospheric. But if you like their album Feed-Forward, I'm pretty sure you'd enjoy this too.
