An enjoyable, if derivative, dose of good-time southern Americana from yet another of the bands currently mining that particular rich seam (check out Southern Hospitality's "Easy Livin" for another winning example).
The Honey Island Swamp Band wears its influences on its sleeve, taking in everything from blues to swamp rock to southern boogie and all points beyond. You wouldn't be altogether surprised to find some Little Feat records in these guys' personal collections, whilst both the title track and especially "Prodigal Son" sound like they could easily have jumped ship from the Allmans' "Brothers & Sisters" album.
Only the countrified "Pills" feels out of place in this setting, a case of one genre too far.
But overall, it's a strong set with "Johnny Come Home " "Black and Blue" and "Change My Ways" particularly memorable.
