Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I suppose the memories of having heard Round the Horne as a small child, always on a Sunday just after lunch, may have affected my judgement, but I love this piece of radio history. Kenneth Williams was at his happiest and best when controlled- well, not exactly controlled, but at least moderated - by Kenneth Horne, and the first appearance (in Episode 4) of Julian and Sandy, introducing polari to middle-class Britain, was, for its time, very bold indeed. My eternal complaint about BBC Audio is its habit of releasing these classic series in tiny chunks, usually at stupidly inflated prices, with little or no background information, and this is no exception. It is nevertheless two hours of genuinely pleasurable nostalgic fun.
