Chris Read says:
You can change whether Numlock is turned on or not at boot by entering your computers BIOS settings.

When you very first turn your computer on you will see a message similar to 'Press DELETE to enter BIOS Settings' .... every pc is different, so it might be a different key like F1 or F2 .... once in the BIOS, choose 'BOOT SETTINGS' (or something similar, but not Boot Priority) ... on this page you should see 'NumLuck on at boot?' etc ... change the setting to 'no', press 'Esc', chose 'Save settings and exit' ... and bobs your uncle :)
