This review is from: The McDougall Program for Maximum Weight Loss (Paperback)
The author recomends a starch based diet, that is very low in fat. Instead of steak and potatos you eat foods like brown rice and brocoli. Eliminating meat, dairy products and foods with added fats, oils and refined sugars is quite challenging. You go to a friends house for dinner and if he or she doesn't cook especially for you, you are lucky if you can eat anything. The diet does however work if you have the discipline to follow it. Eating food that has a low calorie density and lots of fiber will take the lard off and fruits and vegetables will give you the vitamins you need. I followed the diet for three years with satifying results for three years, at which time I decided it was to restrictive for me, and proceeded to eat a fair amount of junk food, which returned me to a fatter state. McDougal supports his claims well, if you are willing to eat in a disciplined way, leaving behind many good tasting but damaging foods, I encourage you to buy the book and try it.
