John Carpenter's worst movie (or very close to being it),
This review is from: Vampires [DVD] (DVD)
I can't recommend this movie to anyone. It's the product of a once great director in his lowest shape.
James Woods doesn't seem to know what he's doing in a terrible movie as this, and he's done some awful ones... Daniel Baldwin is just one of the worst actors I've seen on screen in my life, and the script is just hilarious.
Don't waste your time and money on this.

You may feel a bit like a lone voice here, Ishmael, but I'm with you all the way. John Carpenter was/is one of my favourite directors with so many classics in his CV, but this one is just a dud. The many 5-star reviews here suggest that it's found its audience, but many of them seem easily pleased. I've watched it several times and tried to like it, but for me it simply doesn't work. It's a hybrid that doesn't go anywhere - all style, no substance, nastiness in place of frissons, humour that seems forced and out-of-place - probably one of the most pointless of Mr Carpenter's works. And whoever heard of a "pointless" vampire movie?
