The Primal Wound - Review,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Primal Wound: Understanding the Adopted Child (Paperback)
I have picked up this book in order to get more insight into adoptees in adulthood and how their early experiences affect their adult partnerships, being unable to find anything specifically on that subject itself. I have found the book to be extremely insightful in this respect in terms of how an adoptee may experience problems with intimacy and trust, and looking towards any future and making plans.
I also found the book to be useful to others who have suffered mother loss and abandoment, such as children of divorce where the mother leaves. Many of the same problems around intimacy and trust surface in these cases too.
I have found reading this book comforting at a time when I am in need of some level of understanding of events and interactions outside of my control and would highly recommend the book to otheres to offer insight where adults feel confused and at a loss as to their strong emotions and perhaps destructive behaviours in their adult partnerships - shedding some light on where these impulses come from, and perhaps offering some kind of "answer" or acknowlegement in that we actually cannot fully heal the primal wound, and we can't expect others to heal it, not even the people who created it.
