First of all this book is a very interesting read, unlike many other self-instruction running manuals. It gives you all the necessary tools to be 'your own coach' without beeing too prescriptive. It includes many useful practical insights, such as how use of heart rate monitors sensibly, using breathing rate to gauge an effort, importance of variety in training or ways of measuring your level of fitness. Plus all the necessary instructions on the usual training sessions (fartlek, hills, long runs etc). There are very useful chapters on periodisation and flexibility. The authors give balanced weekly schedules for training at a wide range of levels, which are adaptable to your own circumstances. A very comprehensive yet fresh approach - full stars!
