This review is from: Catechism Of The Catholic Church Popular Revised Edition (Paperback)
There are many versions of the Catechism of the Catholic Church and even many different editions of each of those versions, so one would beg the question why review a book so readily available and so accessible. That would be a good question to ask. There is the `original edition' the `second edition' and now there is also a `definitive edition' so why would we examine this work?

The answer is that like with Shakespeare, for which there are innumerable editions each reader tends to gravitate towards a specific version or set of editions. In having spent many hours reading these documents over the last few months I can only state categorically that this is the `best packaging' of the Catechism that I have yet to investigate. The larger format makes it easier to work with than many of the smaller pocket version, the wide margins left for personal notes and thoughts is much appreciated. As well this edition is the only one I have found with a glossary and it also has a more extensive index then the other two editions I examined.

Honesty says:
The Holy See (Vatican) holds the copyright to the accurate and true "Catechism of the Catholic Church".
Check out the copyright page of any other editions that may use the name illegally and report it to the Vatican.
Watch for errors in doctrine of copies using the name "Catechism of the Catholic Church" without the liscensed permission of the Holy See.
I have no idea who Steven R. McEvoy is.
If this book varies from the real CCC at all, it is violating copyright laws by using this title.
This is the true info from the Vatican web site: " http://www.vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/archive/catechism/ccc_toc.htm "
The real CCC is from the Magisterium of the Catholic Church and is promulgated through the Apostolic Constitution of Pope John Paul II.

For more info on the CCC including quotes from Pope Francis, Pope Benedict, and Pope John Paul II - on the internet go to: "What Catholics REALLY Believe SOURCE" http://whatcatholicsreallybelieve.com/

This version is approved by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops I have read a few different editions. And you are correct Mr or Mrs unknown the online verion is the most current and accurate. But there are changes to it and revisions frequently and also some regional language changes because English in the UK and English in the US and English in Canada are not a single language but variations. If you want a physical book you can write in make notes and highlight ... it is an approved version for a specific region for a set point in time.

Honesty says:
There have only been two final Catechisms of the Church throughout history - Catechism of the Council of Trent 1566AD, and Catechism of the Catholic Church, revised in accordance with the official Latin text promulgated by Pope John Paul II.
(All other catechisms are for local use only.)

The correct version of the CCC and the only one approved for WORLDWIDE use today will contain the Imprimi Potest by Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, and that the Holy See holds the copyright - on copyright page.
In the front you will find the Apostolic Letter LAETAMUR MAGNOPERE in which the Latin Typical Edition of the Catechism of the Catholic Church is approved and promulgated dated Aug 15, 1997 by Pope John Paul II.
Directly following you will find the Apostolic Constitution Fidei Depositum on the publication of the CCC

Here is a Vatican link. Click on the LAETAMUR MAGNOPERE for viewing.
