At last a useful fat quarter book,

This review is from: Fat-Quarter Quickies (Paperback)
This book contains a refreshing way of using fat quarters. The instructions are clear and well written, the fat quarter selections providing the main part of the design with further fabric as background/joining strips etc. the major theme of the book is to cut the quarters into sizes that can easily be joined in a variety of ways to make interesting patterns. To do this the author relies on the Creative Grid Fat Quarter Ruler, which at the time of writing, is not available in this country. This is not a big problem as most quilters will have other rulers that will stand in, it just seems a bit daft to my way of thinking. This book is suitable for beginners while still giving the experienced some challenge, especially if making your own colour substitutions. The dreaded sentence "quilt as desired" was much in evidence, while some of the close up pictures showed that quilting was of a high order indeed, there was little quilting guidance in general. Some of the quilts had quite large areas of background colour which needed some serious quilting which may put off those still learning the skills. This combined with the lack of the ruler is why I gave 4 stars not 5, but overall this book will be a staple one on my bookshelf, where many others did not survive the test of time.
