Those were the days...,

This review is from: Live In Concert 1975 - 85 Bruce Springsteen & The Street Band (Audio CD)
The release of this three CD boxed set was one of the major events in the mid eighties, the sort of thing that makes the six o'clock news. As a long time Bruce fan I recommend it unreservedly. Hardcore Bruce fans like myself who are not all that keen on Born in the USA shake their heads at the mention of this recording, moaning that too much emphasis is placed on the commercial songs of the mid eighties and they do have a point. However the 1st CD alone containing material from the seventies is truely breathtaking. 'Thunder Road' opens the CD and throughout the first CD you feel as though you are in a small bar with maybe fifty others. You can smell the atmosphere and taste the sweat and sense the sheer wonder of the songs and the performance. Close you eyes and you can see Bruce at 28 when anything was possible. The tracks are skillfully mixed so that the CDs come across as a single, seamless concert performance. If you like Born in the USA you will love the 2nd and 3rd CDs. But if you just have Born in the USA and his greatest hits then the 1st CD will really open your eyes to Bruce. Unmissable.
