Not Ordinary - Extraordinary!,
This review is from: Avalon Los Angeles CA 24/06/06 (Audio CD)
Following Sasha for the past 10/11 years has been a bit of a rollercoaster!.....at the start there was flawless record selection and evidence that the man took prog/dance music to the next level all the time in mixing/tune picking/complilation CD's and live sets. However, in the past few years his live sets and solo CD's have not been like the sasha of old. E.g. Qat Collection Vol.2 (Amazing)...Airdrawndagger(bit wishy-washy!). Live sets were ploddy, banging and slightly boring. Don't get me wrong, there have been some great productions also...Xpander etc...I guess it must be tough to keep up 15 yrs+ of constant great DJing & production to be fair.
I guess this is a review for anyone who has slightly lost faith in the great man over the years. This CD is flawless. All I can say is I wish I was there that night. At first listen you get really into it....by the third, you get goose bumps from certain tracks & it's a real journey through melodic, wavey, prog. with a hint of techy thrown in here & there!. The mixing & the quality of the music really shines through here. There is a track by Tim Delux that you wouldnt believe!..but every track is special in its own right and the crowd in the background really adds to the atmosphere of a club night.
I was so glad I purchased this CD(it is more expensive than most!) as I was a bit sceptical from past experiences. If not just a collectors item, this is a rare glimps into a 2hr proggie beats set that only Sasha can produce. I'm going to see the chap in 2 weeks time. I only hope he reproduces the same quality as this Avalon CD...if not...I will really have to go up to the man and ask him...."for the love of god...why??"....
