If only all textbooks were like this. Part coffee table book, part political, anti-authoritarian, polemic and part clinical analysis. As the authors point out the current student body is in a kind of stupor sleep-walking into the future and not questioning the "experts" of today. This is a dangerous situation where students start to believe the dogma of the sage on the stage and not to believe in their own ideas. They forget that most major intellectual movements have been rebellions against the existing orthodoxies and presented their own world views through a creative rejection of what had gone before.
This book is an attack on the orthodox and established. It does not matter whether you agree or disagree with the political view-point, which is against the neo-classical economics and the excessive mathematics of an inexact and complex science. Students need to be shaken from their complacency in accepting the status quo. They need to develop the confidence to believe that they can have ideas and this is a book to inspire and encourage that rebellion.
It should be widely read and not just by students of economics, but by anyone who has an interest in the future.
