This review is from: Doctor Who - Paradise Towers [DVD] (DVD)
I am very excited by this release, because Sylvester McCoy is my Doctor Who. I haven't seen Paradise Towers for about six years now since I sold all my videos, but I used to watch this constantly before that.
In Paradise Towers, McCoy still hasn't reached his peak as the Doctor (that would come in the next and last season), but in this story he's finally in his comfort zone (unlike Time and the Rani) and plays the Doctor with great acumen. His companion, Mel, still has too much screaming time, but this is calmer and she actually has much to do in this story - she helps to lead various rebellions, and is nearly eaten by some old dears!
When this was on TV, I was only 7 years old, and though I am now older and I can see some faults - it still has a great level of creepiness and comedy. It's also very daring with the stories cannibalistic old ladies, caretakers who choose to ignore what's going on with all the residents, and the cleaner robots which quite literally clean up the people. Not a nice place to live, and all Mel wanted was to do was go for a swim! However, both she and the Doctor are true heroes against the baddie - and they finally seem like good friends, and a good team.
I highly recommend this great story to all....
