This is Elizabeth Fremantle's début novel, and shows great promise for further books from this excellent author. The plot is based on fact, and portrays King Henry VIII's final marriage and the intrigue which abounds, with a build up of Katherine Parr's life before she married the king. It begins with her nursing her second husband Lord Latymer, the heartache surrounding his illness and subsequent death, which she had a part in; her passionate affair with Thomas Seymour, as well as her personal maid and friend, Dorothy (Dot) Fowntane, her daughter Margaret and her relationship with the future queens, Mary Tudor and Elizabeth Tudor, as well as the people surrounding her.
All in all it's a terrific read, especially if you're interested in the Tudors - I thoroughly recommend it.
