This DVD has become part of my staple routine for a few weeks now. I have noticed improved firmness in my legs and bottom since starting this workout. My trousers are starting to feel a bit looser too which is a bonus!
I usually do the pilates section of the DVD first. This is instructed by Jillian Hessel who can grate on you at times, especially when you do this regularly! However, the workout more than makes up for this. It is mainly mat based pilates although there are some standing moves. I would say that a beginner would be fine with this workout, although maybe someone lacking in flexibility would find some parts a bit of a struggle. There are always intermediate moves offered by the other lady though so you can build up in your own time. You can really feel the deep core muscles working as you do this and you know you are working every muscle. Overall I find this a very invigorating stretching and lengthening session. I also find the scenery of Banff National Park in Canada very relaxing and the perfect partner to this workout.
I practise the yoga after the pilates when doing this DVD. I do it this way round as the pilates acts as warm up in my opinion and the yoga is more of a strenuous workout. It is quite vigorous, I am a bit of yogi and quite stretchy but there are a couple of moves that I don't think you could describe as being for beginners! So for people who have done some yoga before I think it is just fine. Investing in a yoga brick would also help to bridge the gap in some of the more advanced moves. I think it is the yoga more than anything that has improved my legs so persevere people! The scenery in this section is amazing too, it is filmed in Maui in this amazing lunar landscape which definitely bumps up the hippy rating and makes you feel very relaxed and blissed out.
Overall a great DVD, but for real beginners and the less stretchy I would advise one of Gaiams other DVDs.
