Choppy little sentences make it unpleasant to read.,
This review is from: Dirt (Hardcover)
I loved the premise of the book, put it on my wish list and ordered a kindle preview. After reading the preview the book is no longer on my wish list. I got the impression that the author is not a native English reader, writer or speaker. The sentence structure lacks flow, harmony and readability. This is not good. Reading should be fun, and attempting to read the stilted, awkward and badly written text in this book was no fun at all. Sorry, but this is very poor stuff.

David Vann is a writer in the style of Raymond Carver - raw, unpolished but all the more powerful for being written in an authentic voice. He has an extraordinary insight into the darker aspects of human psychology. It might not be your thing but I suggest reading a little bit and then posting a negative review isn't fair to the author. By all means don't read it, but don't trash a book you haven't read and suggest others don't read it.

I tried to read it, found it unreadable, hence my review.
