4.0 out of 5 stars Suits us fine, 16 May 2010
This review is from: Roberts Elise DAB FM RDS Digital Radio - White (Electronics)
We needed a replacement for an old Sony FM radio in the kitchen that was going on the blink, which had done us excellent service for many years. The Roberts Elise has proved ideal for the job. FM and DAB reception are fine - at least in the spot where we have the radio - as is the sound quality. We are not hi-fi buffs, but for speech and, say, Classic FM in a kitchen it gives us all we want. Set-up was easy using the automatic tuning, and the 4 pre-sets plus a "Favourite" button cater for more stations than we normally ever listen to. Indeed, the "Favourite" button is over the top for us, but it does no harm. We only use the radio on mains supply, so have no experience of how much of a drain it is on batteries. The instructions say the radio must be turned off at the wall (and not merely with the radio's "Off" button) when not in use for any length of time, presumably because the wall plug/transformer still continues to draw some very small amount of electricity otherwise. This could be tiresome in some circumstances, though not in fact in ours. (The old Sony had no external mains transformer, just a simple mains lead.)

MuzikMad says:
Modern energy saving devices have wall-warts that consume 1W or a lot less when the connected device is off. You leave them plugged in permanently. So to hear that this radios power supply must be disconnected when not in use is ludicrous and almost makes this an instant deal breaker. As a potential DAB set for my elderly mother, I'll need to research the truth about the power supply more carefully before buying.
