This review is from: Living with Kids and Dogs... Without Losing Your Mind, 2nd Edition: Volume 2 (Kindle Edition)
This book is such a great, easy-to-understand guide to avoiding problems between kids and dogs that I would almost like to make it mandandory reading. Many families manage without guidance, of course, but so often that is simply because the dogs are basically willing to adapt and tolerate.
If you know anyone who allows their kids to tease their dog/s, disturb them while asleep, follow them even when they are trying to run away, or (heaven forbid) try to ride or sit on the dog, do them a favour and put a copy of this book in their hands.
So many people post videos or pictures of their dog in a 'funny' situation which is causing distress to the animal and everyone seems oblivious .. until the dog bites, and then it's 'his fault'. This book explains how to recognise the signs that the dog has had enough, even if he doesn't growl. Why you should never teach a dog NOT to growl. How to avoid problems in the first place and keep everyone happy.
Thoroughly, 100% recommended.
Have dogs myself, and have had them with and without kids, and have I worked with dogs in situations where they are under great stress (vets and volunteering with an adoption group) and did not find one thing in this book to argue with. It's all good.
