Interesting but depressing,
This review is from: Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World [DVD] (DVD)
I don't get how this was billed as a comedy. It failed to make me laugh once, perhaps a few smiles.
I don't usually enjoy Keira Knightley but she seemed quite natural here as Steve Carrel's unlikely love interest. It had good acting, good music but at the end of the day, it's a film about the end of the world.
To be honest, I was hoping something would happen to stop the world from actually ending.
It felt like such a pity to let these two people die who had grown to love each other over the last few days of the world. I felt very sad when thinking about Penny's newborn niece as well.
I personally would have preferred it if some miracle had saved the world at the last minute so people would have been forced to deal with the consequences of their actions in what they believed to be their final days.
All those people who had boozed, shagged and committed crimes would've had to deal with the aftermath of their bad decisions. That's a film I would've liked to have seen.
But instead, two people fall in love, then everyone dies. I find that very depressing. Not sure I can watch it again.
