5.0 out of 5 stars Best small tv I've seen, 6 Sep 2011
This review is from: Toshiba 19BV501B 19-inch Widescreen HD Ready LCD TV with Freeview (Electronics)
I needed a good quality, small tv for the guest room that we've just finished refurnishing. I was wary of spoling the overall effect by having a cheap and nasty tv that I've often encountered in b&b's and some hotel rooms, so had to make a good choice. My one worry about the 19BV501B was that no matter how hard I searched it was impossible to find a user review, so I took a leap of faith and did it the old fashioned way by respecting the manufacturer's reputation and staying within a set budget. On opening the package, my first impressions of the tv were reasuringly positive, even before I plugged it in and set it up. I found it well built, sturdy on its stand and the shiny black finish was very attractive. Automatic setup was simplicity itself, taking less than 5 minutes to search through the digital channels on freeview and present them on the channel directory. Picture quality is excellent, as is the sound quality and both can be fine tuned according to user preference. It's somewhat over-specced for a tv in a guest room which may not be used very often, but I know I have purchased exactly what I wanted, a small tv with excellent sound and picture quality that I would highly recommend.

Hi

Glad to hear the product is so good. My girlfriend is looking to replace her analogue tv in our bedroom, which she uses as an alarm clock. Does it have a function whereby you can set a time for it to come on? I've had a good look through the specs and can't see anything.

Thank you for any help.

Steve Milner says:
Yes, a timer function is available via the menu which enables you to programme the tv to come on to any of the freeview channels at whatever time you want. They don't call it an 'Alarm' but it does the same job. No buzzer or fancy tunes, just the tv coming on at whatever time you want it.

Hope this helps,

Steve

Hi. found your review really helpful. The only thing I can't find anywhere are the overall dimensions. Sorry to be a pain but could you let me have the height (on stand) and width please.

Steve Milner says:

best wishes,

Steve

Sorry I may sound really dense here, but am needing a new small TV for my kitchen work top. The one I have now apparentley has to be linked to our sky system. with the whole sky box etc under it ! If I purchase this TV with built in Freeview would I still have to link it to sky ??

Kind regards

Ali

Steve Milner says:
Hi, The tv will operate independent of a Sky-box, but will only receive the number of channels available via Freeview in your area.

best wishes,

Steve

There is no aerial point in the bedroom where this tv is destined. Is one necessary with this model, Steve? Thanks for all the information so far.

Regards,

Len

Steve Milner says:
Hi Len,

you'll definitely need an aerial of some sort, preferably an outdoor or loft aerial, but these tvs will also receive the digital signal from your local tv transmitter when used with a good quality indoor (set-top) aerial.

Cheers,

Steve

Hi Steve, wow you have been busy with providing information & help!! I wonder if you would not mind answering my question which is how many scart sockets are on the back of the TV?

Thanks if you can help.

James.

Hi James,

Yes, surprisingly busy with enquiries after posting that review some months ago!
Just taken a look and there's ONE Scart socket, with one VGA and one HDMI.

Hope that helps.

cheers,

Steve
