Still not as good as a blade, but very good for an electric,
This review is from: Braun Series 5 590cc Clean & Renew System Electric Rechargeable Male Foil Shaver (Personal Care)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
My normal shave is a Gillette M3 Power wet shaver, but every now and then I try an electric to see if they have improved enough to be a replacement for it. The Braun is probably the best I've found - I don't think it will replace my wet shaver completely, but I will certainly be keeping it on hand for quick shaves when I don't have time to wet shave.
Ergonomically, the Braun is superb, as you would expect. It has a nice rubber grip, the weight is enough to suggest a quality product, but not so much that it feels ungainly, and it feels very good in the hand. Build quality is excellent, both for the shaver and the supplied accessories (case, charger, cleaning brush, cleaning station), and it all feels built to last.
In use, the Braun feels very good against the skin. I've tried rotary electric shavers, but these feel as if they are ripping the hairs out rather than cutting them cleanly, and they irritate as a result. The Braun, by contrast, causes no irritation, and it glides smoothly over the skin. The shave feels close initially - not quite as close as a blade, but not far off, and in some areas (such as under the chin) you can get closer with this than with a blade. The problem I have found is that stubble seems to reappear a lot faster with this than with a blade, suggesting that it isn't cutting as close as you might like - but then, it is no problem to run the shaver back over your face for a quick touch-up later on in the day.
The Braun is easy to clean - it's waterproof so can just be rinsed under the tap if you don't have time to use the dedicated cleaning station (or don't want to pay for refills for it...). It charges in around an hour, and a charge is claimed to be sufficient for 45 minutes shaving. The battery is lithium ion, so memory effect should not be a problem.
Overall, it's the best electric shaver I've tried - still not as good as a blade, but what it lacks in closeness, it makes up for in convenience.
